Sturgeon Public School Division is currently seeking a full-time temporary Child and Youth Care Worker to provide a full range of support services for students at our Namao School.<p> Namao School is located just minutes north of the cities of Edmonton and St. Albert. It serves Pre-K, Kindergarten and Grades 1-9, with an approximate total population of 400 students and 40 staff. Namao School fosters a safe and caring environment for students to learn and thrive in a close-knit school community.<p> Reporting to the Director of Learning Services, the Child and Youth Care Worker will work directly with the teachers and educational assistants to support students in the classroom environment.<p> SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Observe, assess, and document student behaviours and safety needs<p> Monitor, support and participate in classroom activities<p> Teach and assist students in appropriate classroom and life skills<p> Provide assistance and encouragement with academics<p> Build trust and rapport with students through activities and personal interactions<p> Provide alternate ways to cope with developmental and situational problems<p> Intervene in crisis situations as necessary<p> Maintain a therapeutic approach to behaviour management<p> Collaborate with the classroom teacher in regards to problem solving and decision making<p> Keep informed of current professional trends in the field of childcare<p> Participate and assist in facilitating school events and professional development learning EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Bachelors Degree in Child and Youth Care or Social Work is preferred<p> A Diploma in Child and Youth Care may be considered<p> At least 2 years working experience in a related role <p> Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social, and recreational needs of children, youth and families<p> Experience with Specialized Programming <p> First Aid is an asset<p> Suicide Training and Indigenous Cultural Training is an asset<p> Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Children and Residential Experience Training is an asset Sturgeon Public Schools offers a competitive salary range from $ 29.32 to $37.61 per hour based on experience and education as well as a comprehensive benefits package, as per the General Employment Conditions.
