Secondment - 2024/2025 School Year POSITION: Early Years and Reading Intervention Specialist Teachers <p>FTE: 1.0 <p>LOCATION: TBD (support is provided across the UCDSB) <p>NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 2 <p>Summary: <p>Under the direction of the System Principal in Teaching and Learning, the Early Years and Reading Intervention Specialist Teachers will work directly with classroom educators and students in the implementation of early literacy strategies (Kindergarten Grade 2). These supports may include providing direct reading interventions and other supports required by the school or board on reading and literacy-related initiatives. Early Years and Reading Intervention Specialist Teachers will collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and provide literacy and language curriculum instruction to students in Grade 1, Grade 2, and Year 2 of Kindergarten in classes that do not have a designated early childhood educator.Responsibilities: To collaborate with classroom teachers for baseline data collection, interpretation, and program planning<p> To work directly with students to build literacy skills<p> To support capacity building in literacy pedagogy and intervention<p> To implement and support Ministry of Education and district priorities<p> To co-plan and co-facilitate and support learning with administrators, educators, and students<p> To co-plan and co-teach with school staff<p> To support teachers in implementing effective classroom practices that directly impact student learning (i.e., small group instruction). Knowledge/Skills Demonstrates strong knowledge and skills in Early Years pedagogy including evidence-based practices and structured literacy<p> Demonstrates an open mindset and a commitment to learning<p> Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Ontario curriculum, including The Kindergarten Program, 2016; Growing Success- The Kindergarten Addendum, 2016; Effective Early Reading Instruction: A Teachers Guide, 2022<p> Demonstrates excellent organizational, presentation and time management skills<p> Demonstrates exemplary interpersonal, facilitation, and team building skills<p> Demonstrates strong initiative and problem-solving skills<p> Demonstrates experience in effectively integrating technology into teaching and assessment practices<p> Demonstrates familiarity with a wide range of assessment and evaluation strategies<p> Demonstrates broad knowledge of effective pedagogy and high impact classroom practices that directly impact student learning<p> Follows the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession<p> Understands the importance of professional learning and its impact on student and staff learning<p> Demonstrates knowledge of equitable and inclusive education practices and is committed to culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy<p> Works effectively with school staff, system staff, and community supports<p> Demonstrates ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy, and discretion <p>Qualifications: An Ontario Teachers Certificate of Qualification<p> Primary Qualifications required<p> Minimum of 5 years teaching experience<p> Member of the Ontario College of Teachers in good standing<p> Preference will be given to teachers with additional qualifications in Special Education, Kindergarten and/or Reading. <p>Conditions: Salary Grid plus travel allowance<p> Term - one school year, 2024/2025 (at the end of the term, returns to home school where applicable)<p> Travel to various locations will be requiredTo apply:Please attach a covering letter and resume indicating your experience and areas of tea
