Position: Outdoor Education Technician (Full-time)Department: Outdoor EducationReports To: Head of Outdoor EducationStarting Date: August 22, 2024Application Closing Date: June 25, 2024Salary Range: $48,000 - $58,000, dependent on experienceSt. Georges School is seeking a passionate, organized and diligent individual to support the schools outdoor education department in providing programming for students in Kindergarten through grade 10 and a cohort-based grade 10 outdoor education class.The primary responsibility of this role is to support in all aspects of the outdoor education department operation. Responsibilities will include; supporting the logistical elements of expeditions and local programs, supporting the booking of campsites, creating route plans, maintaining program equipment in terms of repairs and purchase plans, coordinating trip arrivals, departures and more.This role will also include off-site work supporting our overnight camp programs as well as approximately 4 expeditions a year. This position also involves working some evenings and weekends (as required) to support the various trips and activities taking place. This position will work during the academic school year (Mid-August to the end of June). BIPoC and 2SLGBTQIA+ people and those with disabilities are warmly encouraged to apply, and invited to reach out for more information about our commitment to pluralism.Responsibilities will include: Working with the Head of Department and other staff to deliver outdoor education programs in accordance with the schools outdoor skills curriculum.Assisting with the management, repair and ongoing replacement of an extensive collection of outdoor equipment.Managing student enrolment in outdoor education programs and ensuring that databases are kept up to date.Tracking equipment repairs and the overall condition of resources.Information collected will be used to assist the Head of Department in long-term planning for capital acquisition/expenditure.Assisting with the departure and return of backcountry and overnight camp programs.Supporting the Discovery Outdoor Education Elective program logistics.Driving school vehicles to and from activity locations.Providing on-site support for camp programs.Leading approximately 4 expeditions per year.Attending and participating in staff training and professional development activities.Qualifications will include: The following are requirements for this position:Experience and industry qualifications in outdoor skill areas applicable to the trips being offered: canoeing, kayaking, avalanche safety, hiking, skiing.A high level of computer literacy and the ability to manage information in databases.Extensive experience managing and repairing outdoor equipment.Experience interacting with the public in a customer relations-type role.Detail-oriented, organized, and able to solve problems.Sound judgment and decision-making skills.Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms.Key competencies and EQ in self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social expertness, initiative and accountability.80+ hour wilderness first aid course.Class 4 drivers license or equivalent.Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications:Experience in digital photography, publishing, video production or website management.Interested applicants should email a cover letter and resume to: careers@stgeorges.bc.ca
