WSIB and Case Management Specialist (Case Manager WSIB/STD Specialist) <p>Temporary position position 35 hours/week - July 2, 2024-June 30th, 2025 <p>Job Purpose <p>Manage Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) and non-occupational claims for the Durham District School Board, working towards early, safe and suitable return to work in order to minimize lost time for all employee groups. Support Durham District School Board employees through their medical leaves and return to work and ultimately ensure staff are able to work effectively within their abilities in order to provide a consistent and high-quality service to students. WSIB and Case Management Specialist reports to the Manager, Ability Management.<p>Accountabilities REPORT AND MANAGE WSIB CLAIMS FOR ALL DDSB EMPLOYEES: Complete the reporting process for workplace incidents to the WSIB by ensuring the reported information is in line with the WSIB policies. Manage on-going medical updates using WSIB medical forms. Respond to telephone inquiries from WSIB Adjudicators and Case Managers regarding incident details. Update employee records to reflect the medical absences to the system. <p> MANAGE NON-OCCUPATIONAL CLAIMS FOR ALL DDSB EMPLOYEES OVER 20 DAYS IN DURATION: Request and receive medical documentation from employees and adjudicate access to sick benefits for ongoing absences. Maintain medical files by receiving updates regarding recovery and treatment as well as potential return to work options.<p> MANAGE RETURN TO WORK PLANS FOR WSIB AND NON-OCCUPATIONAL FILES: Organize and lead meetings with all involved parties, including union/federation representation, when applicable, to discuss Return to Work options and accommodation needs. Work with WSIB Return to Work Specialists and/or Work Transition Specialists to negotiate and implement a safe and suitable return to work program. Ensure Return to Work plan is progressing well and adjust as needed.<p> MANAGE LONG TERM DISABILITY CLAIMS: Guide the employees about long term disability documentation. Monitor employee sick balances and contact with employees to discuss long term disability process. Maintain LTD files by responding to inquiries from LTD carrier and act as resource of information for principals and supervisors about status of return to work, DDSBs disability management program and WSIB legislations. Communicate with union / federations regarding medical adjudication, return to work and claim status. Coordinate with WSIB regarding on-going claim entitlement, decisions and referrals to special clinics.Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of relevant Collective Agreements as they relate to WSIB/ Disability Management<p> Knowledge of WSIB legislations/ policies/ reporting obligations<p> Knowledge of Health and Safety Act and Health Protection Act<p> Disability Management best practices<p> Knowledge of Human Rights and other applicable legislations<p> Knowledge of LTD providers and administration<p> Knowledge in working with interdisciplinary teams using community collaborative models<p> Computer literacy and use of specialized equipment/technology like HRIS, OnBase, Parklane Software and other school board programs etc.<p> Communication and interpersonal skills, conflict management skills <p>Education and Experience <p>Education Completion of a related degree or a combination of education, training, certification and experience deemed to be equivalent.Experience <p>5 years Experience in Case & Return to work management for physical and psychological disabilities preferred.<p>5 years Working WSIB knowledge & other related legislation as it relates to Disability Management preferred.The Durham District School Board (DDSB) is responsible for public education in the rural settings of Uxbridge, Brock and Scugog Townships and the urban settings of Ajax, Whi
