Our schools are teaching communities where principals, vice-principals, teachers and support staff nurture student well-being and challenge students to achieve their best.<p> We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team: <p>Human Rights Officer<p>100% Regular<p>Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week<p>Union Exempt Level 7: $86,632 to $101,957Reporting to the Human Rights and Equity Advisor, the Human Rights Officer will support the promotion and protection of human rights within the OCDSB by receiving, processing, analyzing, investigating and resolving human rights-related concerns or complaints; analyzing policies, procedures and practices through an Indigenous rights, human rights and equity lens; and conducting human rights-based research. The Human Rights Officer will also engage in developing human rights-based outreach materials; delivering human rights-based training; engaging with students, families, community and staff on human rights-related matters; and providing mentoring and support to employees.The Office of the Human Rights and Equity Advisor oversees the OCDSBs internal human rights complaints procedure including the resolution of human rights-related concerns and complaints from students, families, staff and community members. The Office of the Human Rights and Equity Advisor also provides leadership and advice within the OCDSB to increase the OCDSBs capacity to ensure compliance with its obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code and other human rights-related legislation. Qualifications Experience and success in early resolution of human rights-related concerns; <p> Experience investigating human rights complaints including conducting intakes, developing/drafting investigative plans, gathering evidence, interviewing, human rights legal analysis and developing recommendations and reports; <p> Comprehensive knowledge of and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action; the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Ontario Human Rights Code. <p> Understanding of the Anti-Racism Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act (as it relates to Code-based harassment), Education Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and international human rights legal frameworks, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is desirable. <p> Experience engaging in human rights-based analysis of policies, procedures and/or practices; <p> Experience developing and delivering on-line and in-person outreach and training and providing mentoring on human rights-related topics; <p> Demonstrated understanding, gained through lived experience and/or professional experience, of anti-colonial, anti-racist, and anti-oppression principles and practices.<p>This level of expertise would normally be acquired through completion of a University degree in a law, human rights or equity-related discipline and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience dealing with human rights issues. An equivalent combination of education and experience, including lived experience, may also be considered.
