Environmental Biologist, Water ServicesPosition Status: Full-Time Temporary (This position to last not later than March 28, 2025)Department: Water ServicesEmployee Group: Teamsters Local 31Location: 4515 Central Boulevard, BurnabySalary Range/ Wage Rate: PG T28 $3,634.43 - $4,294.18 bi-weekly Our Water Services Department is seeking an Environmental Biologist, Water Services who will apply strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills to work on various projects and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team to support environmental management initiatives and objectives. You are: A Registered Professional Biologist (BC) eager to take on new challenges in environmental regulatory support and Environmental Management System development. Working as a successful member of our team will require strong critical thinking and collaborative skills across a number of disciplines. This role:Designs, develops, reviews and implements complex environmental studies, impact assessments, innovative analytical approaches and monitoring programs; designs and/or reviews ecological restoration/compensation plans; provides review and sign-off on environmental applications, permits, notifications and other documentation; assesses information needs; recommends priorities, research methodology and implementation strategies and, upon approval, directs and implements same; prepares related budget estimates and monitors study and/or project budgets. Leads and/or undertakes major research studies and projects related to environmental issues; defines project specifications and/or consulting service requirements; prepares requests for proposal, evaluates same and recommends consultants. Develops, maintains and updates data management systems, databases, and analytical models; assembles, analyzes and provides scientific interpretation of data related to various environmental issues; develops protocols for regulatory compliance; performs statistical and trend analysis to determine past, present and potential future environmental impacts of departmental initiatives, plans and activities; participates in the development of related strategies. Participates in the review, development or revision of environmental management policy alternatives, regulations and initiatives; prepares reports, briefings, recommendations and draft policy proposals and/or by-laws for consideration and review by a superior. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, consultants, municipal and other levels of government, academic institutions, various authorities, and non-governmental organizations; represents the District on various committees and task forces. Provides training to staff and makes presentations to various internal and external groups; provides technical advice, assistance and information and promotes awareness of policies, objectives and programs to various stakeholders and staff. Directs and/or coordinates the work of consultants and staff engaged in technical and research projects; monitors consulting services and ensures compliance with specifications and addresses related problems. Performs related work as required. To be successful, you have:A degree in environmental biology, environmental planning, natural resource sciences or related discipline, preferably at the master?s level, eligibility for registration in a professional association related to the work, plus considerable related experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio). Considerable knowledge of federal, provincial, and regional, policies, best practices, legislation and regulations related to the work. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of researching, evaluating and analyzing environmental issues under review.
