Features of the Recreation Centre include: 4500 + square foot Wellness Centre, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, gymnasium, aquatic centre with six-lane 25 metre lap pool, warm ?lifestyle pool? and tot pool with spray features, wheelchair accessible hot-tub, steam room, and sauna. In addition, to recreation activities and programs, there are hundreds of year-round community programs to choose from. About the Opportunity:The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic and highly organized individual to fill a regular part-time Youth Supervisor position. Reporting to the Recreation Programmer - Child, Youth & Family Services, the successful candidate will assist in creating, promoting, and implementing youth programs for the Esquimalt community, including running the Esquimalt Teen Centre. This position requires a high level of planning, leadership, and organizational skills. Responsibilities include:Assisting the Recreation Programmer in hiring, training, and scheduling youth staff at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre Supervising, leading and reviewing the work of Teen Centre staff, volunteers and practicum students Assisting the Recreation Programmer in developing youth programs and special events Responsible for assessment of program needs, the development and supervision of program details, liaising with Parks and Recreation Department staff, customers and user groups, and the evaluation of programs and events Providing information for advertising and creating promotional materials for youth programs, youth camps, fundraisers, special events and related Teen Centre activities Liaising with local schools and other local youth organizations to increase youth engagement in the community Recruiting, leading and overseeing the daily operation of youth programs, youth camps and the Teen Centre Ensuring all safety, risk management, reports, emergency response / first aid, program, and facility standards are maintained Working a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and school hours to provide outreach. Our Preferred Candidate:The ideal candidate will have:Diploma in Recreation, Child and Youth Care, or equivalent education Minimum 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience working with children/youth in a similar environment Current Standard First Aid Certification (16-20 hours) Class 4 Drivers License Current Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check Salary: $35.25 - $38.02 hourly plus benefitsHours per week: average 24 hours per week, maximum of 35 hoursSeptember - June: Wednesday afternoons and early evening; Thursday - Saturday eveningsJuly - August: hours vary, based on camp hours/program need Prior to applying, please visit our website at mailto: esquimalt.ca/municipal-hall/employment to view the job description which provides a detailed outline of key duties and required qualifications, skill, and abilities.
