January 6, 2025) to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Utilities Operations Department, Water Distribution group. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will assist in waterworks operations, maintenance and repair tasks while exercising independent judgement, initiative and safe work practices.ResponsibilitiesAssist the operators in waterworks operations maintenance, operation and repairs that may include the following:Install, calibrate and maintain water systems equipment (water meters) Install watermains and fittings to grade Build valve chambers, manholes and catch basins Tap watermains for service connections and installation Install shoring, check service gauges, repair valves, and perform routine maintenance on hydrants Maintain pump stations and mobile generators Conduct unidirectional watermain flushing operations including testing water for chlorine content and adding dechlorination tablets as appropriate Guide equipment operators and assist in the safe operation of equipment Perform related work as requiredQualificationsCompletion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and sound experience in water or sewer construction and maintenance tasks or an equivalent combination of training and experience Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools/equipment used in waterworks construction, repairs and maintenance Considerable knowledge of the hazards, safety precautions and standards applicable to utilities operations Ability to stay current with advances in waterworks maintenance, repair, and construction techniques Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used BC Driver?s License Class 5 (full privilege) with Heavy Trailer Endorsement (Code 20) or a BC Driver?s License Class 3 with Airbrake Endorsement are considered assetsRequired Certifications/LicensesCandidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver?s License.
