People like you!This is maintenance, repair and minor construction work of some complexity involving the care and upkeep of one or more parks and recreational areas. An incumbent maintains sports and playing fields, sets or adjusts irrigation control for fields and water spray park; fertilizes fields; prepares, measures, and marks sports areas; collects litter and empties garbage containers; maintains a large picnic and barbecue area; ensures a beach area is clean and safe; opens and closes the park area and buildings; answers a variety of questions from the public regarding park policies and encourages users to adhere to all park rules; checks playground equipment and recreation facilities for damage and/or safety matters; performs routine maintenance and repair tasks including patching blacktop roadways and spray pool areas with cold patch; identifies equipment or facilities requiring more complex repair or replacement; checks trail system for washouts, hanging or fallen trees, plugged culverts or other damage and performs minor repair and maintenance as required; supervises and participates in the work of one or more assistants engaged in field layout and recreational area maintenance tasks; prepares and maintains routine work records, orders supplies as required. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include up to high school graduation and sound experience in parks operations and maintenance tasks or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the assigned park areas, adjacent buildings and facilities, and the rules and regulations governing the use of same. Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintaining grass fields, picnic, beach and related areas. Ability to deal courteously with the public and explain park policies and rules; perform routine repair and maintenance tasks related to the work; operate equipment used in the work such as leaf blowers, ride on rollers, lawnmowers, gas powered weed eaters and power saw. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment essential to the maintenance of lawn, turf and playground areas.
