The creation of a provincial health authority was announced following recommendations from Health Accord NL.NL Health Services is responsible for delivering health and community services to more than 528,000 people living in Newfoundland and Labrador and employs over 21,000 people. NLHealthServices.caDefinition of Work: This is a new clinical position in which the Social Worker II will work within the Bishop's Falls Correctional Centre to provide individual and group counselling and work with the community mental health and addictions team in central zone. The incumbent will be expected to liaise with other team members within the community and other correctional facilities within the province, as required. The Social Worker II will collaborate with Corrections staff (i.e. Classification Officers) on referrals for community health services upon release. The Social Worker II is expected to have strong decision-making abilities, and to function with a considerable degree of autonomy. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, the Social Worker II completes comprehensive psychosocial assessments, formulates treatment plans, provides therapeutic interventions and coordinates treatment with relevant community agencies. This involves working with clients, their families, team members, and community resources. Also integral to this position is the provision of psycho-education and therapeutic group programs related to sexual offences and other offences, including impaired driving. Funding to support additional training will be provided. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Social Worker II participates in a variety of administrative and community development activities with a focus on developing services for Correctional Health clients. Accountability is established through ongoing clinical recording and an annual peer audit. The Social Worker II will also be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.This position reports to the Program Coordinator for Correctional Health Services, and the Program Manager for Community Mental Health and Addictions Services in Central zone. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements. Job DemandsBy applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):* Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required to lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.* Regularly sits to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, and to work on the computer.* Occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions; pushes, pulls, and sets up furniture for group work, and drives to conduct home visits with clients.* Regularly uses fine finger/precision work on a computer.* Regularly exposed to volatile clients whose behavior is sometimes unpredictableRequired Qualifications:* Undergraduate degree in Social Work. * Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers (NLASW) is required. * Minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Social Worker in a mental health and addictions program. * Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to:- Mental Health Care and Treatment Act - Adult Protection Act (APA)-
