Box 646* *Fort Vermilion, Alberta T0H 1N0* *Farm Technician Position* The Mackenzie Applied Research Association (MARA) is a non-profit applied agriculture research and extension organization located in Fort Vermilion, Alberta. MARA serves producers in the Mackenzie County, the northernmost agriculture region in Canada. MARA serves both the organic and conventional agriculture community. MARA is hiring a *Farm Technician. *This is a full-time position starting January 1, 2025. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with * Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to assisting with * Farm equipment repair and maintenance and pre-season inspections to reduce downtime. * Complete work orders and record technician notes on the computer (e.g., spraying information) * Collaborate with the management team to host field tours and extension events. * Collaborate with the research team on plot layout, establishment, maintenance, and harvesting of field trials. * Handle snow plowing and overall site maintenance. * Adhere to all occupational health and safety standards. * Undertaking other assigned tasks as needed. This position requires extended periods outdoors. *Qualifications:* * *Strong practical knowledge of farm equipment such as tractors, seeder, combine harvesters, sprayer...etc.* * *Mechanical skills including the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot basic farm equipment issues is required.* * *Hold a valid driver?s license* * A strong interest in agriculture would be a definite asset. * Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and comfortably in a team environment * The successful applicant must pass RCMP criminal background check *Remuneration * Pay scale: $50,000-60,000 annually, depending on experience, plus Vacation Pay. Salary increases will be evaluated annually and determined based on individual performance. Health, Vision and Dental benefits are provided _after the first season_.
