Certified Safety Officer* to help uphold and advance our safety protocols and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
*Job Overview:*
The *Safety Officer* will play a crucial role in the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of our company?s health and safety system. As an individual certified under the *National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO?)* program, you will demonstrate the knowledge and skills to ensure our safety procedures align with industry standards and legal requirements. You will also assist management in promoting a culture of safety, performing site-specific audits, and ensuring all employees are properly trained and compliant with safety protocols.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* *Assist in Safety Program Implementation*: Work closely with management to implement, maintain, and monitor the company?s health and safety program, ensuring all processes are up-to-date and comply with provincial and federal regulations.
* *Conduct Safety Audits & Risk Assessments*: Perform regular safety audits and site inspections, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions to mitigate risks.
* *COR® Certification Audits*: Oversee the Certificate of Recognition (COR®) certification process, conducting internal safety audits as part of COR® compliance.
* *Training & Education*: Lead safety training programs, ensuring all workers understand and adhere to safety policies and procedures. This includes training on WHMIS 2015, fall protection, confined space entry, and other site-specific safety topics.
* *Incident Investigation & Reporting*: Investigate accidents, near-misses, and safety violations, preparing detailed reports and implementing corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
* *Regulatory Compliance*: Serve as a liaison between the company and occupational health and safety officers, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
* *Communication*: Effectively communicate with management, workers, and government officials regarding health and safety issues, providing guidance and solutions where necessary.
*NCSO? Certification Requirements:*
As part of the *NCSO?* designation, the Safety Officer will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following:
* *Safety Management*: Develop and oversee comprehensive safety management systems.
* *Safety Auditing*: Conduct internal audits and assist in external audits as required by the COR® program.
* *Leadership for Safety Excellence*: Provide guidance and leadership on best practices for safety at all levels of the company.
* *WHMIS 2015 Train the Trainer*: Ensure compliance with hazardous materials handling and educate staff on best practices.
* *Confined Space & Fall Protection*: Train staff and enforce compliance with industry standards for confined space monitoring and fall protection.
*Requirements:*
* *NCSO? Certification*: Must hold a valid *NCSO? certification* or be in the process of completing certification.
* *Experience*: Minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction or restoration industry with a focus on health and safety.
* *Safety Knowledge*: Proficiency in understanding and implementing safety regulations (OHS), hazard assessments, and control measures.
* *Communication Skills*: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage and train employees at all levels.
* *Technology Skills*: Proficiency in MS Office and SiteDocs software.
* *Certifications*: WHMIS 2015, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, and Safety Auditor training are considered assets.
