Job details
The AGA is seeking a full time Preparator. Reporting to the Lead Preparator and working within the Preparator team, the Preparator will provide technical assistance for the planning, production, presentation, preparation and maintenance of all Gallery exhibitions; as well as for the care and maintenance of the Gallery?s permanent collection and work spaces.
*Specific responsibilities include:*
* Handling and preparation of works of art to professional museums standards
* Constructing crates and gallery display fixtures
* Maintenance of the Gallery preparation area, woodshop and other shared equipment and resources to ensure that all preparation areas are kept clean and in good working order.
* Preparing exhibition spaces including wall building, painting, lighting, etc
* Installing of vinyl signage
* Providing audiovisual support
* Providing assistance to exhibiting artists and visiting curators
* Delivering, picking up and moving materials and/or works of art
* Assisting in the supervision and training of the part-time Assistant Preparators
* Participation in exhibition and installation planning to determine appropriate methods, scheduling, staffing, equipment and materials required
*Qualifications*
* A university or college degree in related field is preferred
* Experience working in a public art gallery, museum or related field
* Experience handling and installing various works of art
* Strong organizational and problem solving skills with attention to detail
* Strong carpentry skills & experience with tool maintenance
* Experience matting and framing would be beneficial
* Training with Forklift, Aerial Work Platform, and/or Fall Arrest certification is preferred
* Ability to work under general direction and within a team environment
* Valid driver?s license
* Ability to perform physical work associated with preparation of exhibitions
* Capacity to adapt behavior and work methods, as needed, in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles
This is a full-time position commencing October 21, 2024. Salary is commensurate with experience.
