*Position Overview:*
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for managing and overseeing the activities of the Operations Department during assigned shifts at a waste-to-energy facility. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, this role involves supervising and coordinating maintenance tasks, either independently or through subordinate team members.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Lead and manage a team of Control Room Operators, Auxiliary Operators, Crane Operators, and Utility Operators within the Operations Department.
* Oversee shift operations, ensuring all activities are conducted efficiently and in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
* Execute supervisory duties, including employee interviews, training, task assignment, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
* Address and resolve employee concerns, ensuring all essential tasks are performed to a high standard.
*Duties and Responsibilities:*
* Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
* Provide mentorship and guidance to the operations team to ensure optimal facility performance.
* Prioritize and direct daily tasks for the department, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety protocols.
* Supervise operations staff to maintain continuous service and uphold worker safety standards.
* Enforce safety regulations and collaborate with support teams to ensure a safe working environment.
* Monitor production and maintenance activities, assist in outage planning, and oversee the scheduling and completion of operational duties.
* Develop and update operating procedures, recommending improvements for plant operations.
* Review and validate departmental documentation, including compliance data.
* Work with other departments to resolve administrative, organizational, and technical issues.
* Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to environmental compliance.
*Qualifications and Experience:*
* Extensive background in plant operations, with a minimum of five years of hands-on or supervisory experience in power plant operations.
* Possession of a 2nd Class Inter-Provincial Power Engineer?s Certification is required; experience in supervisory roles within electrical generating facilities is preferred.
* Knowledge of industrial safety standards or equivalent experience is necessary.
* Experience in solid fuel facilities is highly desirable.
* Proficiency in Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) is required; prior commissioning experience is advantageous.
*Analytical and Reasoning Skills:*
* Ability to solve practical problems and handle various variables in situations with limited standardization.
* Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions, whether written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled.
*Additional Skills:*
* Ability to take decisive action to prevent injury, ensure environmental compliance, and protect equipment during emergencies or unusual situations.
* Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and maintain high morale among team members.
* Proficiency with office software, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
*Physical Requirements:*
* Ability to work in a 24/7 shift-based environment, including 12-hour shifts or rotating 8-hour shifts, depending on business needs.
* Frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, sitting, and using hands, as well as the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively.
* Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing between 10 and 50 pounds.
* Capability to conduct plant tours and inspections as part of routine duties.
* Specific vision abilities required, including close, distance, and color vision, as well as depth perception and focus adjustment.
* Frequent entry into confined spaces during maintenance activities, particularly during inspections and regulatory compliance tasks.
