Reporting to the Parks Section Manager, the Parks Superintendent will supervise, plan and direct staff responsible for the development and year-round maintenance of parks and open spaces including playing fields, treed areas, trails, gardens and boulevards. This includes coordinating day-to-day operational requirements and developing work plans and cost-effective initiatives and programs while monitoring budgets, preparing records and reports, and ensuring all work is completed in an accurate, safe and efficient manner.Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:Plans, organizes and supervises operational activities in City parks Ensures the budgeted programs are effectively implemented and achieved Prepares operational and related capital budgets Prepares contract specifications and ensure that procurement is carried out in accordance with City policies and procedures Coordinates projects and programs Participates in long-range park planning Develops, recommends and implements procedures and practices Resolves complaints from the public and others Hires, promotes and manages employees within a unionized environment Participates on City committees as required The successful candidate for this position will have: An undergraduate post-secondary education in a Parks related discipline; an equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered Extensive experience in Parks management in a unionized environment and have demonstrated success in relevant, progressive supervisory roles with a minimum of five (5) years? experience at a senior supervisory level Strong analytical skills and a track record of implementing best practices and workplace improvements in your area of expertise Why should you consider working for us?A starting salary range of $112,088 - $131,869 (2024 rate of pay) We take our work seriously but not ourselves We have a positive attitude about the work we perform We care deeply about our community Our organization is the ideal size for you to make a difference and have an impact We have a strong learning culture and want our people to grow and succeed We are a living wage employerQualified individuals are encouraged to apply online by October 10, 2024, at www.portcoquitlam.ca/cityjobs quoting competition number 24-138e.The City wishes to thank all applicants for their interest and advise that only those to be interviewed will be contacted.
