Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Remote location. Relocation costs not covered by employer. Tasks: Load and unload goods. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Perform preventive maintenance. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi trailer trucks). Defensive Driving Course. Driver's License (Class 1 or A). Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports. Driver logbook. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Trip reports. Type of trucking and equipment: Logging, highway. Logging, off-highway. Communication systems experience: Citizens band (CB) radio. Transportation/travel experience: Local. Provincial/territorial. Regional. Short-haul. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Driver's validity licence check. Driving record check (abstract). Drug test. Medical exam. Transportation/travel information: Drive manual transmission vehicle. Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel for extended periods. Willing to travel overnight. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Physically demanding. Repetitive tasks. Sitting. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots.
