*Job Posting: Sonographer for Hip Dysplasia Research Project*
*Position: Sonographer/ Researcher*
Location: Alberta, Canada (Multiple locations including rural and Indigenous communities)
Employment Type: Part-Time 0.5FTE with room to expand to 1.0FTE
* One year contract, renewable, supported by 5 year grant funding
* Flexible work schedule, must be available some Saturdays
* Starting date: October, 2024
Compensation: Up to $50/hour..
*About the Project:*
Join our innovative team at the NIDUS Lab () in Dept. of Radiology at the University of Alberta, working with the Arthritis Society, to be at the forefront of healthcare research aimed at improving early detection of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) in infants. This groundbreaking project, supported by cutting-edge portable ultrasound technology combined with artificial intelligence (AI), seeks to create a province-wide screening program across Alberta. We are committed to enhancing healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and Indigenous communities. In this role, you will utilize advanced imaging technology to perform ultrasound examinations, providing critical information to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
*Key Responsibilities:*
1. Ultrasound Imaging:
* Perform gold standard ultrasound scans of infant hips using portable ultrasound probes
* Ensure high-quality imaging for accurate diagnosis of DDH.
* Train, supervise and perform quality control for other ultrasound users in the project.
* Opportunities to work on other Point of Care Ultrasound projects within the lab
* Including - shoulder, heart, lung, wrist/elbow, fetal, breast?
2. Clinical Research Duties:
* Assist in recruiting participants for the study, including obtaining informed consent from parents or guardians.
* Collect, document, and manage ultrasound imaging data according to study protocols.
* Contribute to the development and refinement of scanning protocols to improve diagnostic accuracy and ease of use.
3. Community Engagement:
* Work with local healthcare providers, community leaders, and Indigenous representatives to facilitate screening in various communities.
* Provide education and training to healthcare professionals on using the ultrasound probes and understanding the AI diagnostics.
4. Research Collaboration:
* Work with our research team to analyze and interpret ultrasound data.
* Participate in regular research meetings to discuss findings, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute to study publications.
* Assist in preparing research reports and manuscripts for publication.
5. Travel and Field Work:
* Travel to various sites across Alberta, including rural and Indigenous communities, to conduct screenings.
* Work flexibly in different clinical settings and adapt to the needs of the community.
*Qualifications:*
* Certified Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with experience in pediatric and/or musculoskeletal imaging.
* Strong understanding of ultrasound technology, with a keen interest in learning and applying AI in diagnostic imaging.
* An outgoing person with excellent interpersonal skills who enjoys engaging with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
* Willingness to travel and work in diverse environments, including rural and Indigenous communities.
* Valid drivers? license is required. A vehicle is an asset but not required, as most out-of-town travel is done using university vehicles.
* Previous experience in clinical research, and active AHS credentials, are an asset, but not required.
* Flexible, agile and hardworking personality, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. You are keen to take on the challenges of implementing innovative technology within our health system to improve the care we can provide.
