Do you want to help contribute to Saanich?s Urban Forest Strategy? The Parks Division is seeking a Senior Arboriculture Inspector responsible for coordination of development-related permit review in regarding the Tree Protection Bylaw. This position advises and trains staff in relation to trees and development and supports senior staff in providing data and recommendations to improve efficiencies, modernize and digitize processes and maintain policy development to further the goals of the urban Forest Strategy and objectives. Requirements include: a two-year diploma in arboriculture or horticulture from a recognized college or university; four years of progressive experience in Urban Forestry and/or administration of a Tree Protection Bylaw including: one year experience managing projects, supervising staff or contractors related to urban forestry and 1 year experience reading and interpreting development proposals as they relate to trees. A certificate from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as a Certified Arborist; ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ); Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement & Investigative Skills Level 1 and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver?s Licence. The successful candidate will have strong computer skills and working knowledge of standardized corporate software packages; excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes; and knowledge and experience using development techniques that mitigate tree impacts. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education may be considered. The successful candidate will work Monday - Friday between 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (40 hours a week). This is a C.U.P.E. 2011 position with a wage of $49.41 per hour and an excellent benefits package. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
