About Focus Eye Centre:
Focus Eye Centre is a specialized clinic offering advanced eye care services, including Laser Vision Correction and Cataract Surgery. With locations in Ottawa and Kingston, we are dedicated to improving patients' vision and providing high-quality eye care. Our Kingston location is seeking a dedicated Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) to join our team.
Minimum Requirements:
* OD, COA, or COMT graduate.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
* Energetic, with a positive and professional attitude at all times.
* Calm and reassuring
* Strong teaching and communication skills.
* Computer skills.
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including the Medical Director, Nurses, Physicians, and Optometrists.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical:
* Serve as a surgical assistant in the OR.
* Perform pre-op dilated & undilated refractions; measure distance and near visual acuities.
* Post-op follow-up, including visual acuities, refraction, assessing corneal healing, applying and removing contact lenses, and modifying post-op pharmaceutical regimens.
* Operate ophthalmic equipment such as autorefractor, tonometer, topographer, wavescan, pachymeter, slit lamp, keratometer, biometry, lensometer, and perform cover/strabismus testing and fundus exams.
* Provide education on procedures pre-op.
* Application of ocular medications and contact lens teachings.
* Maintain and calibrate laser equipment.
* Order surgical supplies and laser gases.
* Implement laser and safety controls.
* Complete incident reports when necessary.
Administrative:
* Supervise OR and laser room staffing.
* Ensure proper confirmation of surgery patients and manage surgical charts.
* Prepare and update patient records and surgical charts.
Supervisory:
* Ensure exceptional patient service at the surgical level.
* Work closely with surgeons, anesthetists, and the nursing team to manage clinical and medical issues as they arise.
* Act as a liaison and contact person for professional staff.
* Troubleshoot and address patient concerns.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Assist in completing forms, entering data, and preparing reports for ongoing research studies at Focus Eye Centre.
* Participate in statistical analysis and contribute to white papers or publications related to clinic research.
