We are a boutique personal injury firm in downtown Ottawa. We are looking for an ambitious self-starter, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, to join our growing firm as Legal Assistant.
A successful Legal Assistant will provide administrative and legal support to lawyers, ensuring efficient management of legal processes and documentation. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Prepare and draft legal documents, correspondence, and reports.
* Conduct legal research and summarize findings.
* Assist with the preparation and filing of court documents and forms.
* Manage and organize client files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
* Schedule appointments, meetings, and court appearances.
* Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other parties as directed by lawyers.
* Assist in the preparation of case materials for court and hearings.
* Maintain and update case management systems.
* Handle billing and invoicing procedures.
* Perform other administrative tasks as required.
*Qualifications:*
* Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Legal Assistant Diploma, Paralegal Certificate).
* At least 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Familiarity with legal research tools and case management software.
* Strong knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and documentation.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
* High attention to detail and accuracy.
*Assets:*
* Experience in civil litigation or injury law.
* Knowledge of Ontario court procedures and legal practices.
* Certification or membership with a relevant professional association (e.g., Ontario Association of Legal Assistants).
* Proficiency using Primafact or similar software program.
