*Job Overview*
The Prince George Citizen is looking for a reporter to cover court proceedings in Northern BC. This is a new position funded through the Local Journalism Initiative. The ideal candidate has experience covering court proceedings.
*Responsibilities*
* Attend court to report on criminal proceedings, filing coverage each day
* Monitor court dockets and maintain a court calendar to track cases through the system
* Research and write about significant civil cases
*Requirements*
* An education in journalism, with proven experience. Court coverage experience is preferred but not mandatory.
* Knowledge and understanding of court processes and terminology, as well as of the responsibilities of media reporting on court.
* Strong research skills.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Proficiency in proofreading and copy editing.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
As a federally funded LJI position, this role is restricted to court coverage only.
The Prince George Citizen is located in Prince George, BC, on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T'enneh. Locally owned and community focused, the paper publishes a print edition once a week and operates the community's busiest news website.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $33,703.51-$73,553.63 per year
