Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Manufacture. Tasks: Interpret welding process specifications. Operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment. Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes. Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment. Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air), (AOC). Operate hoisting and lifting equipment. Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products. Type of materials: Nickel alloys. Stainless steel. Steel, iron and heavy metals. Welding techniques: Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (TIG). Gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Flux core arc welding (FCAW). Equipment and machinery experience: Arc welding machine. Gas welding machine. Area of specialization: Custom fabrication. Pressure vessels. Large diameter pipelines. Transportation/travel information: Own transportation. Own vehicle. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Repetitive tasks. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Sitting. Overtime required. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Tools. Steel-toed safety boots.
