*PURPOSE:*
The custodian provides general upkeep of the facility and grounds, ensuring that Hope Acres buildings and properties are clean, tidy and maintained.
*JOB DUTIES*
The Custodian will be expected to perform regular work duties that may be physically demanding from time to time. It will be expected that the worker will provide the safe and efficient operation of the facilities tools and equipment, using PPE where required
* Communicate effectively with all staff and client in a friendly manner.
* Cleans, arranges/moves furniture, dusts and vaccuums all areas
* Ensures floors are washed, waxed, shampooed where needed
* Maintains walkways, keeping clear of ice, snow and other debris
* Cleans and stocks supplies in all washrooms where applicable
* Maintains cleanliness within building e.g. washing windows, touching up paint, cleaning appliances in kitchen, cleaning vacant client rooms
* Maintaining stairwells and common spaces, noting any repairs where needed
* Keeping log books of any repairs, regular maintenance and may assist with minor repairs where required
* Maintains Hope Acres grounds by ensuring grass is cut, large debris is cleared, property is safe for clients and staff
* Maintains inventory and ordering of supplies
* Ensures buildings and properties are inspected on a regular basis and logged
* May assist with Fire Safety and Emergency planning
* Ensures all work is completed safely, with the correct tools, protective equipment and that supplies are safely stored as per instructions
*WORKING RELATIONSHIPS*
* Reports to the Support Services Manager
* Provides any information needed for Maintenance Supervisor when completing repairs
*ABILITIES*
* Experience in janitorial work; preferably cleaning within office buildings or health care settings
* Grade 12 Diploma or GED
* 1+ years of experience an asset
* additional certification or skills in any minor property repairs and/or maintenance
* Ability to read English and to follow simple oral and written instructions.
* Familiarity with WHMIS, Universal precautions and Work Safety procedures.
* Ability to work with with others in a positive manner
* Able to lift up to 40 lbs when required.
* Physically able to climb ladders, bend down, operate machinery, manually shovel or remove debris
* The position requires frequent sitting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and kneeling.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.20 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
