*Overview*
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our awesome kitchen team in the beautiful beachside town of Grand Bend. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the food industry and a commitment to delivering high-quality dishes. As a Sushi Chef, you will play a crucial role in meal preparation and presentation, ensuring that every dish meets our standards for taste and aesthetics. Your expertise in food handling and safety will contribute to maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment. This position will be 25-30 hours in the winter, leading to full time in the spring/ summer.
*Responsibilities*
* Prepare sushi and other Japanese dishes with precision and attention to detail.
* Ensure all ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality, adhering to food safety standards.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including proper food storage.
* Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely meal preparation and service.
* Assist in menu development by suggesting new sushi items or seasonal specials.
* Train and mentor junior kitchen staff in sushi preparation techniques.
* Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and communicate needs to management.
* Uphold all health and safety regulations within the kitchen.
* Maintain a favorable working relationship with all teammates and promote a working environment that promotes morale, productivity and efficiency.
*Qualifications*
* 1-2 yearsexperience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar role within the restaurant industry.
* Strong knowledge of food handling practices, food safety regulations, and kitchen operations.
* Proficiency in meal preparation techniques specific to sushi and Japanese cuisine.
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
* A passion for culinary arts, particularly in the realm of sushi-making.
* Certification in food safety or culinary arts is preferred but not required.
