We have the perfect opportunity for you!POSITION OVERVIEW:This position involves technical, inspectional, and clerical work within the Engineering Department. The incumbent will examine and process development application plans and building permit applications for single-family dwellings, subdivisions, small non-complex commercial and/or tenant improvements, and low-density multifamily projects. Responsibilities include reviewing and checking submitted information, investigating disputes brought forward by applicants, performing inspections of pre-existing sites and completed work, determining access and servicing conditions and requirements, and making various technical calculations. Considerable independent judgment and action are required for single-family applications. Commercial and low-density assignments are handled with some independence, with a superior available for consultation. Unusual or more complex problems and policy matters are referred to a superior. Work performance is reviewed for technical accuracy and conformance to established policies and procedures.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh school graduation supplemented by introductory technical courses related to the work; plus considerable related experience, OR, an equivalent combination of training and experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESConsiderable knowledge of the procedures, rules, regulations and bylaws governing the work performed. Sound knowledge of departmental functions and practices as they relate to the work performed. Sound knowledge of the responsibilities of other departments and outside agencies as related to the work performed. Working knowledge of technical engineering principles and constructions practices related to the work performed. Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts and to investigate and resolve disputes brought forward by applicants. Ability to read and understand plans and drawings and to understand and apply technical data. Ability to perform technical calculations related to the work. Ability to perform field inspections related to the work, including attending and walking through work sites. Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports and correspondence related to the work. LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES Class 5 Driver?s License valid in the province of British Columbia. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference for candidates who have certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of British Columbia.
