We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, independent individual to fill the full-time position of Engineering and Community Services Technologist. Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Engineering, the successful candidate will be administering development applications; reviewing civil design drawings, writing servicing agreements and inspecting the installation of works; collaborating with stakeholders to develop new recycling initiatives at FVRD transfer stations; overseeing sediment removal and creek clean out projects; involved with the delivery of capital projects; grant writing and so much more. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:A diploma or degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering with a good understanding of and experience working with environmental issues relating to solid waste, water and sewer, eligible for registration as an AScT or an equivalent combination of eduation and experience; Experience in local government service delivery including solid waste management practices, water system and sewer system is preferred. Knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures pertaining to Regional Districts would be an asset; Experience in public promotion, managing projects, conducting research and feasibility studies is required; Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, staff and the general public to provide advice, make recommendations and make effective presentations; Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare well-written technical and administrative reports; Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, stakeholders, senior staff, co-workers, team-members, elected officials, advisory bodies and the public; Must possess a valid Driver?s Licence. The start rate for this union position is $37.73 per hour (2024 rate), plus a competitive and comprehensive health, dental, and vision package and Municipal Pension Plan. Upon successful completion of the required probationary period, the wage will increase to $44.39 per hour (2024 rate).
