Job details
Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry. Tasks: Diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds and flocks through physical examinations or laboratory tests. Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds or performing surgery. Vaccinate animals to prevent and treat diseases. Advise clients on feeding, housing, behaviour, breeding, hygiene and general care of animals. Perform routine, emergency and post-mortem examinations. Provide a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry and euthanasia. Supervise animal health technologists and animal care workers. Diagnose type and severity of diseases. Perform routine animal dental procedures and assist veterinarians with animal dentistry. Monitoring animal health. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. Area of work experience: Animal breeding. Area of specialization: Horses. Security and safety: Eligible for professional liability insurance. Driver's validity licence check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Combination of sitting, standing, walking.
