Education: Earned doctorate degree. Work setting: Business and/or industry. Rural area. General office. Tasks: Supervise laboratory technical personnel, medical clinical personnel, graduate students, research scientists and other professionals. Provide advice to senior managers and officials. Perform administrative tasks. Conduct experiments in plant or animal growth, heredity and breeding. Produce reports. Recruit and hire staff. Study, identify and classify animal specimens. Organize conferences and meetings. Prepare research papers, educational texts or articles. Develop policies, standards and guidelines. Co-ordinate workshops. Co-ordinate multidisciplinary projects. Deliver presentations at conferences, workshops or symposia. Monitor and compile research results. Offer mentoring. Supervise staff, undergraduate and graduate students and research assistants. Instruct technicians and students. Supervise teaching assistants and train student teachers. Assist in the preparation of operating budget and maintain inventory and budgetary controls.
