<strong> Who you are</strong><br><br> · You have a university degree in Law, are a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, and have a license to practice law in Ontario.<br>· You have a minimum of three (3) years broad corporate/commercial experience preferably in a corporate legal department in the retail industry.<br>· You have a good knowledge of relevant legislation governing general corporate activities and operations.<br>· You have demonstrated success in building strong relationships with stakeholders, functional areas, and business partners.<br>· You thrive in a small team setting and effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.<br>· You are proficient at reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documents.<br>· You have exceptional communication skills and can engage effectively at all levels of the organization.<br>· You?re known for sound judgment and a creative common-sense approach to problem solving.<br><br><strong> A day in your life with us</strong><br><br> Reporting to the General Counsel, you will provide timely, high quality and practical support to the IKEA businesses in Canada - including retail, distribution, properties and services - as part of a small and dynamic Legal & Governance team. Your responsibilities will encompass a broad range of legal and governance areas which intersect with the everyday business needs of IKEA, and include the following:<br>· Provide strategic legal advice and opinions on various areas of law to support business operations.<br>· Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and legal agreements.<br>· Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.<br>· Act as the Legal representative in cross-functional project teams or working groups.<br>· Support with the maintenance and administration of corporate records and registrations.<br>· Identify and implement process improvements in the legal department and the business.<br>· Develop and deliver training to enhance legal competence within the business.<br>· Develop internal guidelines on various legal and business issues to minimize risk to IKEA.<br>· Stay abreast of relevant legal and governance developments including changes in laws and regulations, and advise the business on their impact<br>on operations, to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.<br>· Handle disputes and legal claims to safeguard the legitimate interests of the organization.<br>· Oversee external legal counsel and ensure that legal services are performed in a manner that is consistent with IKEA core values, Code of Conduct and policies.<br>· Liaise with Legal & Governance colleagues in the Ingka Group to ensure alignment between the Country and Group agendas.<br><br><strong> About this work area</strong><br><br> When the world is changing we?re the ones who make sure that we are up to date and that local and international laws are harmonized with the best interest of IKEA and our customers.
