Algoma Public Health (APH) is seeking a certified Public Health Inspector (PHI) to work with our team. As a PHI working for APH you will have a diverse portfolio of work that will contribute to the reduction of communicable diseases and health hazards, and health inequities within Algoma communities.
Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Health, the PHI promotes and protects individual and community health through the education and enforcement of pertinent provincial Acts and Regulations, municipal by-laws, and agency policies. The legislation includes the _Health Protection and Promotion Act, _the _Healthy Menu Choices Act, _the _Skin Cancer Prevention Act, _the _Ontario Building Code Act, _the _Provincial Offences Act,_ and the _Smoke-Free Ontario Act _as well as relevant Regulations.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
*Ability, Experience, and Skills for this position include (but not limited to):*
* Certificate in or working towards a Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) with preferences shown to a holder of a related degree and certification as an inspector under the Ontario Building Code Act.
* Current certification or ability to obtain certification (within a defined timeframe) under the Ontario Building Code Act - Part 8 ? Sewage systems will be considered an asset or required, pending location of position.
* Demonstrated knowledge of community resources relevant to the area of environmental health.
* Previous experience working as a Public Health Inspector at a public health unit is considered an asset.
* Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook.
* Strong interest in professional development and self-learning.
* Strong time management and project management skills.
* Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
* Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Must be reliable and have a good attendance record.
* Ability to work outside regular business hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.
* Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential, proficiency in both official languages considered an asset.
* Requires a valid ?G? Ontario Driver?s License and use of a reliable vehicle.
* As a condition of hire, you are required to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine series, per our COVID-19 Immunization policy, unless medically contraindicated. Should you be the successful candidate, you will be required to comply with our COVID-19 Immunization policy that is in effect.
* A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) with satisfactory clearance is a condition of employment, at own expense.
