Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.Job Description Are you ready to make a tangible impact on community development through recreation and culture? The City of Mission is on the lookout for a passionate and experienced Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture to lead a dynamic department in fostering community development through recreation and the arts. This pivotal role involves managing the operations and programs at key city facilities, including the Mission Leisure Centre, the Boswyk Seniors Activity Centre, and the Clarke Foundation Theatre, as well as managing the growth and upkeep of the City's parks, trails and recreational spaces.As the Director, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our community by developing strategic, operational, and capital plans that address evolving community trends and needs. Your role will encompass leading the department towards excellence in financial performance, marketing, programming, and overall management to optimize efficiency and impact. Engaging with the community is a vital part of this position, ensuring that public consultations guide the revision and creation of programs to enhance the use of recreational facilities.In essence, your leadership will drive long-term urban planning for parks while ensuring access to recreational and cultural amenities for future generations. Collaborations with Indigenous communities, advisory committees, and volunteer groups are fundamental in achieving our community goals and needs.Qualifications We're looking for candidates with a strong educational background, ideally a post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Recreation, or Community Development, with a preference for graduate-level qualifications. A minimum of five years of progressive experience in a municipal parks and recreation setting with supervisory duties is required, although equivalent educational and experiential combinations will also be considered. A sound understanding of municipal processes and an aptitude for incorporating Reconciliation principles completes the desired profile.The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership capabilities, strong communication skills, and the ability to strategically think through budget, planning, and time management challenges. Your interpersonal skills will be key, allowing you to navigate diplomatically within a complex, fast-paced, and multi-stakeholder environment.Compensation for this excluded position includes a four-step wage range from $179,256 to $199,176, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
