This position will require a Level III Signing Certification to meet the needs of the student they are assisting. <p>The Learning Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the diverse needs of learners within the classroom, school, and community settings throughout Rocky View Schools (RVS). Reporting to the Principal, the Learning Assistant collaborates with teachers to adapt and implement programs for students with complex needs, with a focus on promoting their health, learning, and independence. <p>Cochrane Christian Academy is located in the Town of Cochrane, and serves students from grades K-8. The program focuses on integrating the Christian faith and a Biblical world-view in a public school setting. Cochrane Christian Academy is a community where people and relationships matter, where identity and culture is clearly defined by their Christian faith, and where an excellent learning community is provided for their students. <p>Responsibilities Include Under the direction of a teacher, assists students individually by facilitating communication between the student, their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, school administration, parents and staff within the school environment by providing interpreting services based on the communication as specified in the student's individual education plan<p> Prepare for interpreting by becoming familiar with course information and technical language<p> Maintain an active membership with the provincial and the national interpreting organizations and abide by the AVLIC Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Professional Conduct<p> Reinforces strategies as directed by the teacher(s) and identified in Personalized Learning Plan (PLP), Individualized Program Plans (IPP), Behaviour Support Plans (BSP), safety plans, and medical plans, in programming for the diverse needs of the students <p> Implements behaviour management strategies for students as needed<p> Contributes to the achievement of students' educational goals and objectives by working with the teacher to create a positive, safe, and optimal learning environmentEducation/Experience Graduate from a recognized ASL-English interpreting program<p> Educational Assistant Certificate or a certificate from a related field<p> An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered<p> Understanding of language implications on the education of deaf and hard of hearing students and competency in adapting to various signing styles along the communication continuum<p> Experience working or interacting wi- LocationCochrane, ON
