POSITION: Transportation - Mechanic <p>SITE: Transportation <p>HOURS: 40 hrs/wk <p>JOB COMMENCES: ASAP <p>VACATED BY: Dwight Green <p>WAGE: AS PER UNION AGREEMENT <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, ABILITY AND SKILLS: Class 2 Driver's License with Air Brake endorsement<p> Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate<p> Personality and aptitude for working with students <p>Description: <p>Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, repairs and maintains all School District buses; vehicles and equipment; and performs as a bus driver as needed. Be responsible for the day-to-day routine of the mechanics' shop.<p>Duties: <p>1. Diagnose problems, repair and perform general maintenance of all buses, equipment and vehicles including adjustment of engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and clutches on gas and diesel equipment; tune up engines, ignitions parts, clean and adjust carburetors; perform minor body repair; respond to breakdowns.<p>2. Perform preventative maintenance and make inspections of buses for proper working order and safe operation.<p>3. Order, stock and inventory parts and supplies as needed.<p>4. Maintain and keep current an inventory and accountability of parts, tools, supplies and equipment.<p>5. Use department funds in an economically responsible manner.<p>6. Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate.<p>7. Ensure shop organization, cleanliness and safety.<p>8. Make recommendations on equipment replacement.<p>9. Drive any bus route that may be required as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.<p>Qualifications: <p>1. Automotive or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certification<p>2. Commercial Transport Mechanic Certification<p>3. Commercial Inspection Certification<p>4. High school diploma<p>5. Work Hazardous Materials Information Certification (WHIMIS)<p>6. Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certification<p>7. Minimum of one year related experience at the journeyman level.<p>8. Physical capability to perform the job duties<p>9. Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.<p>10. Valid B.C. Class 2 driver's license with an Air Brake Endorsement<p>11. Possess good computer skills<p>The successful candidate will demonstrate the following: <p>1. A willingness and ability to learn other tasks as required<p>2. Excellent human relation skills<p>3. High degree of initiative<p>4. Ability to work as a team player<p>5. Good judgement<p>6. Proactive and work well under pressure<p>7. Ability to set priorities and juggle multiple tasks concurrently<p>8. A professional attitude<p>The starting hourly rate of pay for this Mechanic's position is $36.78 per hour.
