Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work site environment: Non-smoking. Work setting: Custom cabinet shop. Furniture manufacturing company. Millwork shop. Commercial. Tasks: Operate woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, mortisers and shapers, to cut, shape and form parts and components. Prepare specifications of custom-made cabinets that maximize storage. Shape surfaces or edges of wood workpieces, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.. Instruct apprentices. Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be made. Operate CADD and other computer software systems. Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit and reinforce joints. Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain or polish to finished products; prepare and apply laminated plastics. Maintain clean and safe work environment. Repair or restyle wooden furniture, fixtures and related products. Use computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Computer-aided design (CAD). Program CNC machine tools. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Cabinetmaker Trade Certification. Joiner (Cabinetmaker) Trade Certification. Computer and technology knowledge: AutoCAD. Area of specialization: Cabinets. Furniture. Millwork. Kitchen cabinets and vanities. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Standing for extended periods. Weight handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs).
