Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, the Development Officer will be responsible for building and sustaining relationships with donors and stakeholders, launching fundraising initiatives, and securing sustainable funding to support Platform Calgary?s mission. The right person is a self-starter, and a team player with excellent oral and written communication experience and skills. The Development Officer leads Platform Calgary's donor campaign and philanthropy initiatives, working directly with the Director of Partnerships and CEO to increase donor engagement and secure philanthropic commitments. This role develops and implements comprehensive fund development strategies to position Platform Calgary as a preferred charitable organization for Calgary's city builders. The Development Officer ensures donors remain actively engaged in Platform's tech ecosystem, leveraging their entrepreneurial and investment expertise beyond their financial contributions.
*What will you do?*
- Lead philanthropy strategies and campaigns to meet Platform Calgary's annual and long-term goals. Maintain accurate donor databases, analyze results, and identify new funding opportunities to inform future initiatives.
- Coordinate donor activities with the Director of Growth and CEO. Develop and execute timely donor stewardship plans. Build and maintain a prospective donor pipeline. Draft grant proposals and applications. Create donor-specific funding proposals that align with their interests. Organize and execute regular philanthropic events.
- Identify and nurture relationships with potential donors across individual, corporate, and foundation segments. Provide exceptional donor stewardship through timely gift acknowledgment, regular communications, and impact reporting.
- Monitor and evaluate fundraising activities, track progress against goals, and generate reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Partner with the marketing team to develop philanthropy communications materials and campaigns.
- Serve as the internal donor advocate, coordinating fulfillment, relationship management, and impact measurement.
- Monitor and share philanthropy trends and best practices with the team.
- Support Platform Calgary's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) initiatives.
- Create progress reports on philanthropic campaigns.
*The right candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:*
- 4+ years of philanthropy or business development experience, preferably in nonprofit sector
- Bachelor?s degree (in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field), advanced degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) is an asset
- Proven track record of corporate giving and partnerships and major gifts success for budgets over $1 million
- Comprehensive understanding of the donor gift cycle: prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship
- Strong relationship-building abilities with diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated discretion and diplomacy in handling confidential donor information
- Experience with G-Suite, Asana, Hubspot
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude to join a fast moving, often deadline-driven team
