West Vancouver Transit has an immediate opening for two permanent full-time Transit Mechanic ?A? or Commercial Transport/Heavy Duty Apprentices. This is mechanical work at the journeyman and apprentice level. We are building a team where people feel valued and are encouraged to contribute their unique skills, perspectives and experiences. A team where staff are driving positive change in everything that we do.Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for: performing mechanical overhaul, repair, and maintenance tasks on transit vehicles in the shop or in the field, completing a variety of complex mechanical assessments; diagnosing various electronic components by performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using relevant computer software; submitting reports and maintaining records; performing a variety of gas and electrical welding tasks; and other related work as required.The successful candidate will possess, or have the ability to obtain and retain: Certificate of Trades Qualification in Commercial Transport Mechanics or Heavy Duty Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate with air brake endorsement Class 2 or 3 Driver's License with Air Brake EndorsementAdditional requirements for this position include a minimum of five years' relevant experience; current knowledge of diesel engine and transmission electronic control systems; possession of own hand tools; air conditioning courses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates currently in their 4th apprenticeship may be considered.During the assessment process, successful candidates will be required to submit an acceptable Driver?s Abstract from ICBC. The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials.
