*Accountant II - General Ledger/Accounts Receivable*
*GENERAL:*
Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Cariboo Friendship Society and subject to it?s policies and regulations, the Accountant II will be responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant in keeping the books and accounts of the Society; filing of data and information; administration of various aspects of the housing program; and generally be involved in the Society?s various activities.
*DUTIES:*
To be responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant in keeping the books and accounts of the Society by:
ensuring a complete and accurate record of all financial transactions of the Society.
keeping safe all funds, records, books of accounts, invoices, vouchers, receipts and other documents of papers related to the financial operating of the Society.
keeping the Executive Director informed of all matters relating to the financial position of the Society.
2. To be responsible for reconciliation of all Accounts Receivable of the Society by:
preparing all billings and invoices.
preparing customer statements and following up on delinquent accounts, including credit recovery.
ensuring customer accounts are reconciled to the general ledger accounts.
ensuring records are maintained in an orderly and consistent fashion and that proper audit trails are maintained.
3. To be responsible for preparation of monthly financial statements for the Society under the direction of the Senior Accountant by:
checking and posting of all sub-ledger batches.
preparing recurring and adjusting journal entries.
ensuring financial records are reconciled to actual accounts.
ensuring records are maintained in an orderly and consistent fashion and that proper audit trails are maintained.
4. To assist the Senior Accountant in financial filing of data and information pertaining to the records of the Society by:
filing all financial records.
maintaining customer records.
5. To assist the Senior Accountant with the preparation of correspondence and reports as required.
6. To assist the Accounting Department staff as needed, record the receipt of monies and generally assist in the running of the Accounting Department. This includes being available to fill in for Accounts Payable and Payroll during holidays and other requests for leave.
7. To be knowledgeable and involved in the general activities of the Society by the following:
Involvement through education programs, social events, business training, recreation activities, fundraising events, etc.
In this respect the employee must be prepared to work from time to time when necessary on evenings and/or weekends.
*QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:*
1. The position requires satisfactory completion of two years within a recognized Accounting program.
2. The position requires a working knowledge and familiarity with a variety of business machines, such as point of sales systems, calculators, copiers and computers. Requires experience using Sage 300, ERP, Sage 50, Microsoft, for Windows accounting software (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Canadian Payroll, General Ledger, Bank Services), Microsoft Excel, and Word.
3. Should have a minimum of two years experience working in a bookkeeping position.
4. Must have knowledge and understanding of the various Government Departments, etc., from which the Society?s funding is received.
5. Must have the ability to communicate clearly in English both orally and in writing.
6. Must maintain professional conduct and abide by the Cariboo Friendship Society?s Code of Ethics.
7. Must submit to a criminal records check.
*SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR SKILLS:*
1. Should have knowledge and understanding of the local Native culture and/or the ability to work with Native people.
2. Must be able to act under supervision.
3. Knowledge of a local Native language (Shuswap, Chilcotin, or Carrier) is an asset.
