Are you a self-starter who possesses a positive and can-do attitude?If so, we invite you to apply to be a part of our temporary full-time seasonal outside workers for Public Works Operations!Our seasonal outside workers perform diversified manual work entailing physical effort and agility in performing semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks for Public Works. Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performing cleaning and maintenance tasks for mains and PRV stations; or watercourses, catch basins, manholes and pump stations. Performing manual work on concrete, asphalt or maintenance crews including assisting in the construction, repair and maintenance of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, ditches, roads, dikes and pavement. Providing customer service to internal and external clients. Working with and around excavation equipment, shoring and heavy trucks. Working with teams for pipe installation projects. Conducting water quality control, testing, and monitoring. Performing fire hydrant maintenance and operations. Performing traffic control duties. Operating City vehicles with trailers and attachments to transport equipment and materials to job sites Driving large trucks and operating a wide variety of equipment, tools, etc.. General labouring duties on a variety of projects including sweeping, shoveling, lifting and moving various equipment and materials, job site clean up and related tasks.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of methods, practices, and/or procedures related to Public Works operations and construction activities. Knowledge of truck driving techniques and rules of safe operation of equipment and vehicles used. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work, as well as safe work procedures, practices, methods, and materials involved in the work performed. Skills in public relations including strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public and project a positive image of the City at all times. Knowledge of municipal streets and traffic routes. Skill in the care and operation of a variety of power and hand tools, materials, and equipment used in the work. Ability to drive in non-standard areas and to safely maneuver vehicles under non-standard driving conditions. Ability to plan and organize own workload and the ability to initiate operational adjustments based on service needs. Ability to work with others and use common courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in maintaining working relationships. Ability to carry out oral or written instructions, take direction from a supervisor, and exercise some independent judgement and action in processing assignments.
