A new $34M research and training centre will soon be built in Pond Inlet. Once complete, the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, in partnership with Nunavut Arctic College, will offer courses on conservation, mining, research and Inuit traditional knowledge, with the possibility of some university-level education.

Once demolition work is completed, a six-storey residential building will be constructed in its place. Construction of the new building is anticipated for summer, once the city issues final approval.
