Canadian retailer Peavey Mart announced that it is closing all 90 of its stores nationwide. Peavey Mart carried agricultural supplies, hardware, and home improvement products, and had a significant presence in rural and small-town communities. The closure is due to overwhelming financial challenges caused by the changing retail landscape.
According to Statistics Canada, retail trade sales reached $2.2B in Saskatchewan in November 2024, ranking second nationally for year-over-year retail trade growth. The province saw a 5.1% increase (seasonally adjusted) from November 2023 to November 2024.

Comark Holdings, owner of Canadian clothing retailers, has filed for creditor protection and plans to close all 221 Cleo and Ricki's store chains across Canada, affecting 2,056 employees. Bootlegger stores will downsize, and Comark will seek a buyer for what remains of that business. Comark faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, competition from other fashion retailers, a ransomware cyber attack and supply chain issues, and saw 19% decrease in sales in early 2024.
The Pelly Grocery Market in the Village of Pelly was destroyed by a fire on December 31. It was the only grocery store in the community.

According to the National Rent Report, Saskatchewan rental prices increased 12.1% compared to last year, while rent across Canada declined. The increases in Saskatchewan are driven by demand in both urban and suburban areas.
Churchill’s British Imports, a British speciality store and café in Saskatoon permanently closed in December. The store first opened in 2011.
