The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) began policing in Brokenhead, Manitoba in October 2024, due to a lack of RCMP service in the community. The MFNPS Brokenhead detachment is hiring new recruits and plans to extend Brokenhead’s First Nation Safety Officer program to an MFNPS program for police training. The City of Winnipeg is building a temporary fire paramedic station to serve the Waverly West neighbourhood, a fast-growing area with gaps in emergency services. The temporary site will be operational this fall and will be used for two years until a permanent fire hall is completed in 2026.
