A new Costco is currently under construction in Winnipeg. The new 167,000 sq-ft. store is set to open before Christmas 2025.
Comark Holding, owner of Ricki’s Fashions Inc., Cleo Fashions Inc., and Bootlegger Clothing Inc., filed for creditor protection and plans to close all Cleo and Ricki’s stores, and downsize Bootlegger. There are 13 stores in Manitoba – 10 in Winnipeg and three in Brandon – and a large distribution hub in Winnipeg.
Comark Holdings Inc. – which owns Bootlegger Clothing Inc., cloe fashions Inc., and Ricki’s Fashions Inc. –began proceedings under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act on January 7. All cleo and Ricki’s stores will be closed, while Bootlegger may downsize its retail spaces. Comark Holdings currently has 221 stores in Canada.
A 7-Eleven on Winnipeg’s Ness Avenue has become the first Manitoba location where people can buy and consume liquor. The store has been remodelled to include a dining area, and staff have received certification to serve alcohol.
Olina Fashions, a retail store in Portage la Prairie, is permanently closing due to theft and violence. The business will close in early 2025 after selling its last merchandise. Stolen items have not been recovered, leading to financial loss for the business. Increased incidences of theft, and violent theft, led to an unsafe work environment for employees.
