Be part of our story. Come grow with us!POSITION OVERVIEW We have an exciting full-time opportunity for a GIS Coordinator to join our Information Technology team. This is a complex analytical, technical, and supervisory role involving responsibility for providing project management, business analysis and technical expertise in the development and implementation of integrated strategic business initiatives and solutions that utilize or interface with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to meet the business needs of both internal and external clients. You will provide technical support to users including developing and conducting training, demonstrating software capabilities, and resolving user problems, representing the department on various internal committees. You will also be responsible to plan, assign, review and supervise the work of technical staff engaged in similar work. The ideal candidate will have effective written and verbal communication skills, excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and can exercise independent judgement and decision-making skills.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCECompletion of a two-year diploma program in computer systems technology from a recognized institute of technology, supplemented by completion of a spatial information systems post-diploma program, plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of spatial information system standards, requirements and techniques, to aid in the application of GIS by department. Thorough knowledge of systems analysis and design techniques, computer programming methods, practices and procedures as applied to the work performed. Thorough knowledge of software programs and hardware components that may comprise a GIS. Considerable knowledge of Municipal and departmental policies, procedures, practices, rules, regulations and applications. Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, work with minimal supervision and ability to work in a team/project environment. Ability to understand database design and management concepts, as it relates to spatial data. Ability to coordinate third party and staff resources to ensure conformance to requirements; providing oversight of projects and consultants, including project initiation and resources procurement processes. Ability to maintain, operate and purchase GIS related hardware and software. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in verbal and written form, which may include the preparation of technical and administrative reports, change management plans or presentations. Ability to provide technical advice and assistance to GIS users and conducts and develops training and system orientation sessions as necessary. Ability to analyze and evaluate data and information required for programming and computer system purposes and to develop logical solutions for assigned problems. Ability to organize, lead and act as the Information Service department?s GIS representative on internal committees to prepare, explain, implement and enforce GIS policies and procedures. Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records, system documentation manuals, operating instructions, manuals, files and other materials related to the work. Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of technical subordinates.
