Job details
Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Work setting: Construction. Commercial. Industrial. Various locations. Tasks: Supervise workers and projects. Co-ordinate and schedule activities. Train or arrange for training. Estimate costs and materials. Ensure health and safety regulations are followed. Recommend personnel actions. Read blueprints and drawings. Requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies. Leading/instructing individuals. Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages. Repair cracks and holes. Prepare, clean and sand surfaces to be painted. Inspect to ensure that safe working conditions are maintained. Erect scaffolding and swing stages and attach rigging. Communicate technical problems, processes and solutions. Resolve conflict situations. Apply paint, wallpaper and other materials and finishes to interior and exterior surfaces. Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Communicate with other workers to co-ordinate the preparation and completion of work assignments. Organize tasks to accomplish the work. Supervision: 3-4 people. Painters and decorators. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Working at heights training. Occupational Health and Safety Certificate. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Fall Arrest Protection Training Course. Equipment and machinery experience: Roller painting. Brush painting. Airless spray equipment. Area of work experience: Paint spraying. Surface preparation experience: Drywall taping/patching. Coating/application specialization: Urethanes. Wood finishing specialization: Staining. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Own vehicle. Own transportation. Willing to travel. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Ability to distinguish between colours. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Reliability. Team player. Initiative. Efficient interpersonal skills. Flexibility. Screening questions: Are you currently legally able to work in Canada?.
