The North Shore Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) is now open and is Kamloops’ second UPCC. Once fully staffed, there will be about 30 full-time health-care practitioners available. The centre is part of B.C.’s initiative to strengthen primary care within the province, with 39 UPCCs currently open and 11 more expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

The University of British Columbia is expanding the family medicine training program to Vernon and some surrounding communities. The program will allow medical students to train in Vernon, Lumby, Armstrong and Okanagan Indian Band to gain experience in the area and with Indigenous peoples. One of the program's goals is to retain doctors in the areas where they are trained.
