The Government of British Columbia has announced the new indigenous Food Pathways program to support Indigenous food sovereignty and security. The program will provide up to $200K to Indigenous projects that develop food and agriculture businesses, expand training programs and address gaps that impact participation in the sector.

NOVEM Pharmaceuticals has agreed to purchase BC Tree Fruits' cold chain storage facility in Kelowna and lease the facility to provide emergency-basis support and prevent fruit harvest loss. The BC Tree Fruits Cooperative ceased operations earlier this year after the January cold snap decimated the tree fruit harvest in the province.

The Government of Canada has announced plans to construct a new community-run hatchery on the Kitwanga River. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2024 and once complete the facility will be operated by Gitanyow Nation. The hatchery will primarily raise Kitwanga sockeye salmon, a stock of significant conservation concern.

The Government of Canada has announced plans to construct a new Pacific salmon hatchery in Prince George to support conservation and rebuilding of Chinook and sockeye salmon. The hatchery will be operated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada in collaboration with Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and with support from Canfor Pulp Ltd. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2024.
